LSC to offer upgrade of JANET connections for all
FE Colleges in England
The Learning and Skills Council will be funding the capital costs of upgraded JANET connections for all FE Colleges in England. This offer will result in bandwidths up to 100Mbit/s and will result in much faster and more efficient connections. The Colleges will also make a contribution to the ongoing recurrent costs of this upgrade.
Letters have been sent out to all FE Colleges and to date there has already been a very positive response to the offer with 34 colleges having requested quotes for increased bandwidth.
Stephen Nichols, Contract Manager - Technology for Learning, of the LSC said: “This increase in JANET bandwidth will really help Colleges progress their use of technology in learning and is part of the LSC’s policy of encouraging colleges to e-maturity."
Tim Marshall, CEO of JANET(UK) said: “We are delighted to be able to deliver high bandwidth connectivity for the English Colleges, thereby ensuring that they remain at the forefront of delivering the right skills and training for the tomorrow’s learners.”
JANET(UK) will implement a programme of upgrades to all Colleges who request one, region by region throughout 2008. The offer has gone out to 376 FE and 6th Form Colleges.
